Well water recharge to be implemented under MGNREGA(17/11/2016)

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : State government has approved the guidelines for well recharge scheme to be implemented as part of Mahatma Gandhi national rural employment guarantee scheme. The project will be implemented in various phases. The project will be implemented in 142 village panchayats in the first phase. The project will be widely implemented with the help of NGOs, organisations, individuals, corporate social responsibility initiatives and sponsors.

Well recharge schemes will be implemented under employment guarantee scheme. Wells that require recharging will be identified through a comprehensive survey. Employees for the scheme will be chosen and trained and will be deputed for work on zonal basis.

The maximum amount to be spent from employment guarantee scheme fund is Rs 8000. In case of additional financial requirement, the amount will be sourced from the beneficiary. Joint programme co-ordinator, panchayat deputy directors will oversee the project. As per the statistics, there are 45 lakh open wells in the state.
