School children from the state, who would like to present their innovative projects at this year’s National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) in Varanasi can take part in the district-level qualifying competitions that would start after mid-November.
The theme for NCSC 2012, to be held in Varanasi from December 27 to 31, is ‘Energy Exploration and Conservation’.
Students can develop projects centred on this theme for presentation at the district and state-level competitions.
Besides an opportunity to take part in the prestigious NCSC and the upcoming Kerala Science, Congress, the students can also win cash prizes.
The Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), which is coordinating the activities of the Children’s Science Congress in the state, said that groups consisting of a maximum of five students can present projects.
Participants should be aged over 10 years and below 14 years in the junior category and below 17 years in the senior category as on December 31, 2012.
Children wishing to participate in the competitions can get in touch with the Science Congress coordinators in their respective districts for details.
The Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) has issued a circular to state schools in this regard, while the KSCSTE has already conducted work experience programmes for teachers at district and state-levels.
Winners from each district can take part in the state competitions which would be held here on November 27 and 28.
Sixteen of the best projects would be selected for presentation at the NCSC, and two winners from Varanasi would be able to take part in the Indian Science Congress.
State-level winners would also be given cash awards and an opportunity to showcase their projects at the 25th session of the Kerala Science Congress (KSC) to be held at Technopark here from January 29 to February 1.
Winners from state syllabus schools would be eligible for grace marks at the 10th standard and higher secondary levels. Kamalakshan Kokkal is the coordinator, K P Trivikramji is the academic coordinator and C P Aravindakshan is the organising committee chairman of the Children’s Science Congress in Kerala.
